EA Khumariyaan Tour – 2022

Often, we get asked about how music impacts our lives but we forget to question how music has an effect on social change. This is a complex one. Addressing this question may have important benefits for advancing our society and for revealing the important aspects of the human connection to music.

Such is the mission and vision of the remarkable Pakistani Hyper Folk Music band, Khumariyaan, who play four instruments seamlessly and engage the audience with their charm and harmonious melodies.

Farhan Bogra who play the majestic ethnic Rubab, Shiraz Khan who play the adorned Zeer Baghali, Muhammad Aamer who plays the semi acoustic rhythm guitar, and Sparlay Rawail who is the guitar master. <br>
Khumariyaan strongly believes that music is the best sublimated form of art and its best left to the audience to experience the intoxication and the magical goosebumps.

Often compared to the legendary Fela Kuti, he possesses a captivating stage presence, charismatic personality, and impressive vocal prowess. Makadem’s journey began with entertaining beach hotel guests in his hometown of Mombasa, refining his skills.
In 1999, he transitioned into a full-fledged artist, releasing a reggae dancehall single titled ‘Mr. Lololova.’ Later, he collaborated with seasoned Afro fusion producer Tabu Osusa, shifting his musical style from dancehall to a fusion of Benga and Ohangla. This transformation led to his debut album ‘Ohanglaman,’ produced by Tabu Osusa and released under Ketebul Music in 2007.
Makadem’s music has taken him on extensive tours across Africa and Europe, gracing stages at renowned festivals like Sauti za Busara, Bayimba, and Fest’Horn. He has shared platforms with international icons such as Gregory Isaacs, Mighty Culture, and Baba Maal, gaining international recognition. Notably, he gained global attention with his song ‘Obama Be Thy Name,’ expressing support for then-American presidential candidate Barack Obama during the 2008 campaign. The song’s video stirred both positive and negative reactions on YouTube and was featured by CNN.
